There is concern within the EFF and the National Freedom Party in KwaZulu-Natal that it is losing support as the IFP is, according to reports on a drive to poach its councillors with alleged enticements and threats throughout hung councils in the province. This may see severe problems for the ANC-EFF-NFP coalition in about 13 hung municipalities in the province, where the party vowed to fight to remain in power.

In an interview, the IFP President, Velenkosini Hlabasa, told Radio Islam International that the IFP is driven to shift the flow as a priority in KZN and aims to win every bi-election.

Determined to win all three bi-elections in KZN, the IFP will remove the ANC in 2024 and establish a governing party in hung municipalities.

Hlabisa says, “the people of Kwazulu-Natal have chosen the IFP to be their government while throughout the country people reject the ANC due to its failures.”

The IFP aims to remove ANC-EFF coalitions in hung municipalities, and the NFP faces liquidation in two months.

Meanwhile, the allegation by the EFF is that it expelled Abaqulusi Municipality councillor and Zululand regional secretary Bongimpilo Nhlengethwa, with the accusation that he helped persuade EFF councillors to dump the party and work with the IFP in exchange for money and positions in IFP-led municipalities.

Nhlengethwa claimed the ANC was oppressing people and he could not work with the party. Nhlengethwa felt the IFP worked for the betterment of the people.
