Education Dept to Take Against Lenasia South Teacher Guilty of Sexual Misconduct

January 20, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 20-01-2017

The Department of Basic Education says it is taking action against a teacher at a secondary school in Lenasia South who has been found guilty of misconduct after an investigation into claims he was in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old pupil.

Detail of the year long relationship between the teacher and grade 8 pupil emerged last week after officials from the department conducted a week long investigation.

It’s understood the alleged misconduct came to light after an image of the pair kissing was circulated by pupils.

Neither the school nor the implicated teacher can be named in order to protect the identity of the teenager.

The department says the allegation is appalling and betrays the trust entrusted to the department by the parent.

“The affected educator will be charged with sexual misconduct and if found guilty will be dismissed and struck off the professional roll of educators.”

According to education legislation, sexual relations between educators and any learner at school are totally forbidden, even if the learner consents to it.
