Durban residents were left shaken after a tremor hit the KwaZulu-Natal province on Thursday.
It’s understood the 3.7 magnitude tremor which lasted several seconds was felt in central Durban, the south cost and Pietermaritzburg among other areas.
The Council for Geoscience’s Mahlatse Monomela told Radio Islam the epicentre of the tremor was in the vicinity of the R612 in the Park Rynie area in Kwazulu-Natal.
Monomela also confirmed there is no link between the KZN tremor and the earthquake in the Philippines.
Ml Ebrahim Desai who resides in Durban has urged the community to turn to Allah for safety and security and protection from calamities.
“We just experienced a very, very severe tremor in Durban. It was indeed very, very frightening…Thank Allah that He confined this tremor into a tremor and it did not go beyond to an earthquake.”
Ml Desai has also urged the community to give charity to the less fortunate.
