Famed for its sunny, balmy weather and exceptional beauty, Durban is a tourists’ delight at any time of the year. A tour of Durban is must when visiting the city if you want to immerse yourself in the various cultures, tastes and smells. And the best way to cover the Golden Mile and surrounds is on the Ricksha Bus.
Durban today launched two new double-decker Ricksha buses to replace the old buses that have been transporting tourists for decades.
Similar to the open top buses operating in the Cape, the buses are decked out with pictures of Durban’s traditional Zulu dancers, the Moses Mabhida Stadium, the entrance to uShaka Marine World, the Durban Golden mile and other attractions.
Ricksha buses will ferry tourists from the North Beach Tourism Office around the city at scheduled times beginning in time for the festive season.
Tourism is a major contributor to the City’s coffers and eThekweni’s Mayor, Zandile Gumede, is ensuring that Durban pulls out all the stops to give tourists a vacation to remember whilst increasing the market share.
The Ricksha buses are a convenient way for tourists to explore the city’s scenic sights and major attractions whilst learning about its colourful history, people and their heritage, especially as the buses will now cover new routes which include three more areas of the city with an emphasis on the township and rural tourism.
