Are You Aware Of Drug Use and Abuse in South Africa
The drug problem in South Africa has been on a continual rise, especially in the last few years. Cocaine, marijuana locally known as dagga, and heroin are all drugs
With numbers growing recently, ER24’s Emergency Medical Care Unit has initiated a campaign from the 24th to the 28th of June as Drug Awareness Week.
Thirty three percent of South Africans are drug users with a twenty five percent rise in drug use over the last 10 years. Drug abuse is costing South Africa over R20-billion a year and could pose a bigger threat to the country’s future than the Aids epidemic.
Drug use affects all South Africans with 60% of crime being drug-related.
The ER24 Multimedia Producer Pieter Rossouw says
‘’they would like to raise awareness of drugs and drug use and abuse because it’s a really big problem’’
The initiative hopes to get the public involved to help fight for a better future and get drug abuse down to zero.
Remember; protect yourself and your friends and SAY NO TO DRUGS!!
