Reports have surfaced that Dr Aafia Siddiqui is under severe anxiety and serious mental health issues as the Coronavirus continues to spread in FMC Carswell, the United States federal prison in Fort Worth, Texas where she is held.
Her sister, Dr Fowzia Siddiqui has regretted that the government of Pakistan is not showing seriousness in seeking an urgent release for Aafia from the US jail on compassionate grounds, as more than 600 prisoners of that jail, have already been tested positive for COVID-19.
Dr Fowzia said the family are unaware of her health condition and her children were refused to have a telephonic chat with her on the occasion of Eid al Adha. The entire family are worried as almost half of the prisoners of that jail have been tested Covid-19 positive. Dr Fowzia adds that this was the 34th Eid that Aafia spent in solitary confinement.
Dr Aafia, 47, was convicted in 2010 on seven counts of attempted murder and assault of US personnel in Afghanistan. She is currently serving an 86-year jail term.
To discuss the latest surrounding Dr Aafia Siddiqui, Radio Islam spoke to Zahid Raza, Journalist for Dailytimes Pakistan.
