Donald Trump has become the first President in US history to be impeached twice, making it  the most bipartisan presidential impeachment in modern times, more so than against Bill Clinton in 1998.

The US House of Representatives impeached Trump for incitement of insurrection at last weeks Capitol riot.

The Democratic controlled house voted on Wednesday night after several hours of debate as armed national guard troops kept watch both outside and inside the Capitol.

Ten Republicans sided with Democrats to impeach Trump.

House speaks Nancy Pelosi read out the results of votes which were 232 to 197 to impeach the US President for the second time.

“Today, in a bipartisan way, the House demonstrated that no one is above the law, not even the president of the United States,”

Trump, a Republican will now face a trial in the senate where if convicted, he could face being barred from ever holding office again.

However he is not at risk of having to quit the White House before his term ends in one weeks time because the senate will not convene on time.

Trump leaves office on 20 January following his election defeat last year November to Democrat Joe Biden.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has warned of a possible armed protest planned for Washington DC and all fifty US state capitols ahead of Biden’s inauguration next week.
