Don’t Use Children as ‘Weapons’ After Being Divorced

Radio Islam’s Ramadan drama ‘Heart Break’ while has raised a few eyebrows about divorce and the effects of separation, it also provides pertinent lessons for those that have experienced the trauma of a marriage being broken.

While the drama is just a sketch which portrays fictional characters, it mimics the reality of the trials and tribulations that couples face on a daily basis including the lessons which are lifelong.

One of the lessons that are drawn from this year’s drama is the selfless actions of a parent who use children as weapons against his or her spouse after being divorced.

Radio Islam’s Moulana Habib Bobat says while parents may not have found closure after divorce, using innocent children to get back at each other is not a healthy situation.

“We must understand it is not fair on the children’s part. They are masoom, innocent and they can’t be dragged into all of this. You cannot use the children as emotional tools and as a means of damage control of getting back at the other party.”

Moulana Habib says parents who have been through divorce should find a means to forgive each other so that it does not have an impact on the wellbeing of children.

“Whatever mistakes were made, the minute you divorce those mistakes are now part of your history. You can’t hold the past of a person against that person especially when it involves children. We must understand they are parents and will remain parents of their children for the rest of their lives.”

Ml Habib says parents vindictive behavior towards each other will scar children for life, emphasizing that questions may be raised about how children would turn out and what their character would be towards family and people in general.
