Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma says restaurants and takeaways will be able to deliver food to the homes of customers under lockdown level 4, but no sit-down meals will be allowed, and customers will not be allowed to go and pick up food.
The National Coronavirus Command Council, led by Dlamini-Zuma, gave a detailed briefing on the regulations relating to the Covid-19 Level 4 restrictions on Wednesday.
The country will move to level four lockdown on Friday while trying to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Dlamini-Zuma says all venues normally associated with public gatherings would still have to be closed.
“Restaurants can’t have sit downs but only deliveries. Alcohol is still not allowed yet on Level Four.”
She says government will also not open the sale of cigarettes and other tobacco related products in Level Four due to health reasons.
“We consulted about allowing cigarettes and other tobacco related products. There was quite an opposition to it in the public comments. Two thousand people opposed it. Government decided to continue as we are with cigarettes.”
Dlamini-Zuma explained that cycling, running and walking would be allowed between 6am and 9am but it would have to be within a 5km radius of one’s home, and not in organised groups.
