In response to a warning from the SA Weather Service regarding windy and stormy conditions for the province, KwaZulu-Natal has put its disaster management teams on high alert.

According to the provincial department of co-operative governance and traditional affairs, heavy rain is expected to create localised flooding in the greater Durban area, inland, and along the north coast.

Sipho Hlomuka, COGTA MEC, issued a warning to people about the dangers posed by poor weather.

Richard Mckenzie spoke to Radio Islam International; the affected municipal districts include eThekwini Metro, Ugu, Harry Gwala, Umgungundlovu, and Ilembe, are on high alert for flooding.

“There have been multiple crashes on the roads, which have left several people injured. We want to remind motorists while driving on wet road conditions to decrease the speed that they are travelling at”.

Disaster management personnel will be keeping a close eye on routes and regions that are prone to mishaps.

Residents are asked to stay off the roads as much as possible and to avoid crossing low-lying bridges. Drivers are advised to exercise caution as the roads may become wet and treacherous.
