The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it will act against President Jacob Zuma if he failed to declare a million Rand a month salary since he took office.
The party says, leader Mmusi Maimane will visit the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Monday to view President Jacob Zuma’s declaration of interests.
This comes after Zuma failed to answer an urgent question last week in the National Assembly as to whether he received alleged payments from Roy Moodley, or his company, Royal Security since he became President in May 2009.
In the new book ‘The President’s Keepers’, Jacques Pauw reveals explosive details that Zuma was allegedly paid R1-million a month, during his early months of his first term, from Moodley.
Zuma denied receiving any payments.
Maimane’s spokesperson Portia Adams says the party will act against Zuma if he failed to declare the payments.
“If the one million Rand per month salary has not been declared, as required by the executive ethics act, the DA will consider what further action is appropriate in the circumstance.”
Adams says the party wants proof Zuma did in fact declare such a salary, which he is required to do by law.
“The president’s declaration is of the public’s interests and is a public document as per the executive ethics act section 7.5 of the code, which makes its clear that any person as access to the public part of a register.”
