The Democratic Alliance (DA) says Nelson Mandela Bay in deep crisis and needs to be rescued from collapse.

The party says Nelson Mandela Bay has been brought to its knees by the UDM Mayor, Mongameli Bobani, and his coalition consisting of the ANC, AIC, PA and the United Front.

The DA says since Bobani’s election as Mayor, Nelson Mandela Bay has regressed on all governance, financial and service delivery indicators.

DA parliamentary leader John Steenhuizen says the situation in Nelson Mandela Bay is a national crisis, which threatens to destabilize a major Metropolitan Municipality.

“We’ve established a parliamentary task team to look at an action plan that we are going to drive in Parliament to compel the president and ANC as well as the minister of cooperative governance and traditional affairs to stop turning a political blind eye to the travesty that is happening in Nelson Mandela Bay and act.”

Steenhuizen says Bobani also has no plan in place to deal with the critically low dam levels
