The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it expects thousands of people to march in Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg for change and in defence of the Constitution of South Africa.
Marches are set to take place on Thursday outside the mayor’s office in the Nelson Mandela Bay and at the Constitutional Court in Johannesburg.
The DA’s Refiloe Nt’sekhe says the African National Congress (ANC) is taking South Africa in the wrong direction.
“Instead of firing Jacob Zuma for his role in the Nkandlagate scandal, they defended him. In doing so they violated our Constitution, which so many South Africans died fighting for.”
Referring to last week’s impeachment debate in the National Assembly, Nt’sekhe says members of parliament (MP’s) tried to throw national icon, Nelson Mandela under the bus, by comparing Zuma’s actions to his.
“We need to stand together, hand-in-hand, to make it clear that we will not allow our hard-won democracy to be trampled on by Jacob Zuma and his ANC”
Nt’sekhe has encouraged South Africans to join the march.
