DA: David Makhura Guilty & Must Face Full Might of Law

May 16, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 16-05-2018

The Democratic Alliance (DA) says Gauteng Premier David Makhura is as guilty as everyone involved in the Esidimeni tragedy and must face the full might of the law.

The opposition party’s motion of no confidence in Makhura failed yesterday and the premier remains at the helm.

Thirty-eight members of the provincial legislature voted against the removal of Makhura while 27 voted for the motion, out of a total of 65 votes.

DA’s provincial leader John Moodey, says the party did expect the motion to fail as Makhura was supported by his caucus who voted with him.

He says Makhura must be held responsible for the Esidimeni tragedy in which One hundred and forty four patients died, most of them from hunger and dehydration at various NGOs after they were moved from Life Esidimeni facilities.

“We’ve gotten used to the fact that within the ANC, you have to tow the party line, otherwise you could find yourself out of the party. It’s a blatant lie when he says he was not aware of what was happening on his watch.”

Moodey says the DA will continue to investigate on how to take the matter forward, not excluding that the party may possibly opening criminals charges against those implicated in the Esidimeni tragedy including Makhura.
