South African Revenue Service (SARS) customs officials have seized more than 15 kilograms of crystal ephedrine estimated at R4.5 million at OR Tambo International Airport.
It understood the passenger from Lagos, Nigeria arriving from Ethiopia on Tuesday was intercepted by Sars officials.
Authorities searched two pieces of check-in luggage where they discovered a whitish rough substance that was concealed at the bottom of the bag.
Sars Sandile Memela says a drug test for crystal / ephedrine meth was conducted which tested positive for the substance.
“Customs officials intercepted the passenger carrying 15.1kg of Crystal Ephedrine estimated at R 4.5 million. The passenger was then handed over to the South African Police Service for further investigation.”
