Muslims have been urged to be careful of their possessions when going for Salaah after a Musallee had his car stolen while making Wudhu at a Masjid in the south of Johannesburg.
A surveillance video which has gone viral on social media has shown how criminals have found new and innovative ways to commit crime and are now targeting Masaajid.
In the video, a Musallee is seen being followed into the Robertsham Masjid on Sunday for Salaah by an unidentified man.
The Musallee takes off his jacket and his watch and prepares to make Wudhu while the suspect watches him and pretends also to be getting ready for Salaah while discreetly placing his jacket next to the Musallee.
The suspect then starts to ruffle the man’s jacket who is unaware of what is happening and removes the keys for the car and is seen walking out of the Masjid and suspected of stealing the vehicle.
The police’s Kay Makhubela says people must be cautious and aware of their surroundings.
“The advice we can give from the police side when people suspect somebody who is following them whether they are in the malls, or they getting out of the car, they must notify the police as soon as possible.”
