#CrimeStats Abramjee: Blood,Bullets & bodies Have Become Way of life for Many in SA

September 12, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 12-09-2018

Head of Make SA Safe and anti-crime activist, Yusuf Abramjee, says the latest crime statistics “are scary and cause for serious concern.”

Police Minister Bheki Cele and National Commissioner Kehla Sitole released the 2017/2018 crime statistics in Parliament on Tuesday which show murder is up by 6.9% from last year.

The figures show that murder increased from 19,016 murders in 2016/17 to 20,336.

Attempted murder cases have also increased, as are the killing of women which has gone up 11%.

Abramjee says the average murder rate of 57 per day shows there is no respect for life and life has become cheap for many.

“Blood, bullets and bodies have become a way of life for many and we have a national crime emergency.”

Abramjee says police resources have to be beefed-up and South Africans need to support the men and women in blue at every turn.

“Yes, the cops are finding it difficult to cope. That’s why we need to all hold hands and mobilize. We need to fight crime and mobilize communities.”

Abramjee says the increase of CIT robberies of almost 60% is shocking and that the CIT industry needs to take urgent steps and use technology which is available locally to protect guards and the cash.
