NGO Crescent of Hope says staff have been left traumatised after one of their senior members was shot and killed at his home in Azaadville, west of Johannesburg.
65-year-old Haroon Saley was fatally shot and his son Yusuf wounded early this morning after armed suspects broke into their home.
Yusuf was airlifted to the Chris Hani Baragwaneth Hospital where he is reportedly in a critical condition.
Crescent of Hopes Ismail Kholvadia says the passing of Saley is loss to the organisation and the community.
“It is sad news indeed, not only for us but I think for the community of South Africa at large.”
He says Saley was an absolute icon for Crescent of Hope.
“All the services that he provided was purely voluntary. He did absolute sterling work. My colleagues and I have no words to express the gratitude, sacrifices and sincerity and he had given to the organisation.”
Saley was involved in a number of projects for Crescent of Hope including providing support for the De Deur and Magaliesburg drug rehabilitations centres and water distribution to drought stricken areas.
Kholvadia has expressed his deep condolence to Saleh’s family saying that the organisation would support them in every possible way.
He says the passing away of Saley is the call of the Almighty and Muslims are aware that death is inevitable.
“I assume the manner in which it happened might bring extra sorrow to us and the family but I ask the family to make sabr (patience) and live on this hope that Allah will grant him Jannatul Firdous Insha’Allah.”
