Communications minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams says government will not spy on people’s personal communication with the contact tracing measure, but rather to find those who may be infected by COVID-19.
Ministers representing the coronavirus National Command Council updated the nation on the revised lockdown regulations on Thursday evening.
Some of the lockdown rules have been adjusted including the tracking of mobile phones.
Ndabeni-Abrahams says the tracking of mobile phones is to find those who may have been in the immediate vicinity of someone who has tested positive for the Coronavirus.
“We are not intercepting calls, even for the person that would’ve have tested positive.”
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize announced that number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 1462 while the number of deaths remains at five.
