A Durban family has been hard-hit by COVID-19. In a matter of days, Greg, Angela and their 26 year old daughter Zoe succumbed to the virus.
According to a report by News24 and The Witness, the parents were admitted to St Augustine’s hospital in Durban on 19 December – the day their daughter, Zoe, was due to tie the knot with her fiance.
Greg passed away on 23 December, Zoë was admitted to hospital on 24 December and died on the 26th while her mother passed away on the 29th.
The extended family is devastated.
A Facebook message from Zoe’s fiancé on 29 December showing a picture of Zoe read “You will always be in my heart. You will always be my sweetheart. And I will never stop loving you.”
As of January 3rd 2021, South African Covid-19 cases had hit 1 100 748. The country recorded 11 859 new infections, and 402 more deaths.
The government also unveiled its strategy to roll out the Covid-19 vaccine on Sunday. “At least 67% of South Africans will need to be vaccinated against Covid-19 to ensure herd immunity,” said health minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize.
The vaccine is expected to be rolled out in three phases, with the 1,25 million healthcare workers in the country having first access.
