The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 159,333.
This is an increase of 8,124 from Tuesday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 92 bringing the total to 2,749.
The Western Cape has the most infections with 64,377 followed by Gauteng at 45,944, Eastern Cape at 29,340, KwaZulu-Natal 10,632, Free State 1,672, North West 4,393, Mpumalanga 1,306, Limpopo 1,175, Northern Cape 494 and unallocated infections 0.
The total number of recoveries to date is 76,025, which translates to a recovery rate of 47,7%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 1,666,939 this is an increase of 36,931 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably, we report a further 92 COVID-19 related deaths- 17 from Eastern Cape, 28 from Gauteng, 10 from KwaZulu Natal and 37 from Western Cape. This brings the total deaths to 2749. The mortality rate is 1,7%.”
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
