The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 177,124.
This is an increase of 9,063 from Thursday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 108 bringing the total to 2,952.
The Western Cape has the most infections with 66,936 followed by Gauteng at 54,331, Eastern Cape at 32,157, KwaZulu-Natal 12,757, Free State 2,130, North West 5,168, Mpumalanga 1,611, Limpopo 1,408, Northern Cape 626 and unallocated infections 0.
The total number of recoveries to date is 86,298, which translates to a recovery rate of 48,7%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 1,745,153 this is an increase of 39,025 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably, we report a further 108 COVID-19 related deaths- 3 from Northern Cape, 8 from Eastern Cape, 29 from North West, 10 from KwaZulu Natal and 58 from Western Cape. This brings the total deaths to 2,952. The mortality rate is 1,7%.”
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
