The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 373,628.
This is an increase of 9,300 from Sunday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 140 bringing the total to 5,173
Gauteng has the most infections with 136,879 followed by Western Cape at 85,772, Eastern Cape at 65,316, KwaZulu-Natal 45,614, Free State 10,727, North West 14,337, Mpumalanga 7,424, Limpopo 5,156, Northern Cape 2,351 and unallocated infections 52
The total number of recoveries to date is 194,865, which translates to a recovery rate of 52%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 2,505,646 this is an increase of 33,899 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably, we report a further 140 COVID-19 related deaths – this brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 5,173.”
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
