The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 118,375.
This is an increase of 6,579 from Wednesday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 87 bringing the total to 2,292
The Western Cape has the most infections with 56,780 followed by Gauteng at 28,746, Eastern Cape at 20,487, KwaZulu-Natal 6,590, Free State 976, North West 2,965, Mpumalanga 783, Limpopo 730, Northern Cape 318 and unallocated infections 0.
The total number of recoveries to date is 59,974 this translates to a recovery rate of 50,7%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 1,460,012 this is an increase of 43,118 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably, we report a further 87 COVID-19 related deaths- 2 from Gauteng, 15 from KwaZulu Natal, 17 from Eastern Cape from 53 Western Cape. This brings the total deaths to 2 292. The mortality rate is 1,9%.”
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
