The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 40,792.
This is an increase of 3,267 from Wednesday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 56 bringing the total to 848
The Western Cape has the most infections with 27,006, followed by Eastern Cape at 4,936, Gauteng at 4,845, KwaZulu-Natal 2,869, Free State 322, North West 364, Mpumalanga 144, Limpopo 206, Northern Cape 95 and unallocated infections 5.
The total number of recoveries to date is 21,311, this translates to a recovery rate of 52,24%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 820,675, this is an increase of 34,696 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably, we report 56 more COVID-19 related deaths: 1 in KwaZulu Natal, 1 in the Free State and 54 in Western Cape. This brings the total national deaths to 848.”
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families.
