COVID-19 Infections Hit More Than 10,000 On Day 100 of Lockdown – Deaths Jump to 3,026

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 187,977.

This is an increase of 10,853 from Friday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 74 bringing the total to 3,026.

The Western Cape has the most infections with 68,376 followed by Gauteng at 59,373, Eastern Cape at 34,161, KwaZulu-Natal 13,984, Free State 2,376, North West 5,644, Mpumalanga 1,818, Limpopo 1,559, Northern Cape 686 and unallocated infections 0.

The total number of recoveries to date is 91,227, which translates to a recovery rate of 48,5%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 1,792,078 this is an increase of 46,925 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report a further 74 COVID-19 related deaths- 31 from Eastern Cape and 43 from Western Cape. This brings the total deaths to 3,026.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
