COVID-19 Infections Exceed the 300,000 Mark – Deaths Rise to 4,453

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 311,049

This is an increase of 12,757 from Tuesday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 107 bringing the total to 4,453

Gauteng has the most infections with 112,714  followed by Western Cape at 81,556, Eastern Cape at 55,584, KwaZulu-Natal 32,939, Free State 6,561, North West 11,225, Mpumalanga 5,051, Limpopo 3,645, Northern Cape 1,667 and unallocated infections 107.

The total number of recoveries to date is 160,693, which translates to a recovery rate of 51,7%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 2,278,127 this is an increase of 45,389 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report a further 107 COVID-19 related deaths – 4 from KwaZulu- Natal, 12 from North West, 12 from Eastern Cape, 38 from Western Cape and 41 from Gauteng. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 4,453.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
