The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 45,973
This is an increase of 2,539 from Friday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 44 bringing the total to 952
The Western Cape has the most infections with 30,379, followed by Eastern Cape at 5,629, Gauteng at 5,626, KwaZulu-Natal 3,016, Free State 348, North West 468, Mpumalanga 181, Limpopo 216, Northern Cape 105 and unallocated infections 5.
The total number of recoveries to date is 24,258, this translates to a recovery rate of 52.8%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 891,668, this is an increase of 40,797 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably, we report more 44 more COVID-19 related deaths: 25 in the Western Cape, 6 in KZN, 7 in Gauteng and 6 in the Eastern Cape. This brings the total national deaths to 952. Although the numbers of COVID-19 related deaths are rising, our mortality rate remains at 2%, well below the global average of 6%.”
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families.
