The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 43,434.
This is an increase of 2,642 from Thursday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 60 bringing the total to 908
The Western Cape has the most infections with 28,807, followed by Eastern Cape at 5,240, Gauteng at 5,215, KwaZulu-Natal 2,936, Free State 336, North West 409, Mpumalanga 169, Limpopo 215, Northern Cape 102 and unallocated infections 5
The total number of recoveries to date is 23,008, this translates to a recovery rate of 53,2%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 850,871, this is an increase of 30,196 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably, we report 60 more COVID-19 related deaths: 7 from Gauteng and 53 from Western Cape This brings the total national deaths to 908.”
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families.
