COVID-19 Deaths Spike to 683, Infections Jump to 32,683

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 32,683.

This is an increase of 1,716 from Saturday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 40 bringing the total to 683

The Western Cape has the most infections with 21,382, followed by Gauteng at 4,003, KwaZulu-Natal 2,545, Free State 278, North West 175, Mpumalanga 121, Limpopo 177, Eastern Cape 3,927, Northern Cape 69 and unallocated infections 6.

The total number of recoveries to date is 16,809 which translates to a rate of 51.4%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 725,125 this is an increase of 23,242 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report 40 more COVID-19 related deaths- this brings the total national deaths to 683.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families.
