The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 22,583
This is an increase of 1,240 from Saturday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 22 bringing the total to 429.
The Western Cape has the most infections with 14,740, followed by Gauteng at 2,773, KwaZulu-Natal 1,815, Free State 202, North West 94, Mpumalanga 101, Limpopo 128, Eastern Cape 2 690, Northern Cape 40 and unallocated infections 0.
The total number of recoveries to date is 11,100.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 583,855 this is an increase of 19,485 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“The total number of recoveries is 11 100 with 11 483 active cases. This translates to a recovery rate of 49%. This is above the global recovery rate which is 42%.”
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families.
