COVID-19 Deaths Spike to 261, Infections Jump to 14,355

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 14,355

This is an increase of 831 from Friday’’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 14 bring the total to 261

The Western Cape has the most infections with 8,404, followed by Gauteng at 2,262, KwaZulu-Natal 1,498, Free State 153, North West 64, Mpumalanga 68, Limpopo 59, Eastern Cape 1,812, Northern Cape 35 and unallocated infections 0.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 439,559 this is an increase of 18,004, which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably we report a further 14 COVID-19 related deaths- this brings the total national deaths to 261. We are however encouraged by the rising number of recoveries which now stands at 6 478.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families and appreciation to the health workers who treated the patients.
