COVID-19 Deaths Spike to 194, Infections Tops 10,000

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 10,015

This is an increase of 595 from Saturday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 8 bringing the total to 194

The Western Cape has the most infections with 5,168, followed by Gauteng at 1,952, KwaZulu-Natal 1,353, Free State 135, North West 45, Mpumalanga 61, Limpopo 54, Eastern Cape 1,218, Northern Cape 29 and unallocated infections 0.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 341,336 this is an increase of 17,257, which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report 8 more COVID-19 related deaths: 3 from Western Cape, 1 from Eastern Cape, and 4 from Gauteng. This brings the total national deaths to 194.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families and appreciation to the health workers who treated the patients.
