COVID-19 Deaths Soar to 34, Infections at 2,506

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize has announced that 34 people have now died from COVID-19 in South Africa while the infections have jumped to 2,506.

This is an increase of 91 from Tuesday’s announcement.

Gauteng has the most infections with 930, followed by the Western Cape at 657, KwaZulu-Natal 519, Free State 97, North West 23, Mpumalanga 22, Limpopo 25, Eastern Cape 199, Northern Cape 16 and unallocated infections 18.

Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 90,515, this is an increase of 3,493 from the last report.

“It is with sadness that we report 7 new COVID-19 related deaths. Six of these deaths are rom KwaZulu and one of them is from the Gauteng. We convey our condolences to the families and also appreciate the committed health workers who were treating these patients.”

Mkhize says with the flu season around the corner there will be a large number of people with symptoms similar to COVID-19 and they will remain on high alert.
