COVID-19 Deaths Rise to 643, Infections Spike to 30,967

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 30,967.

This is an increase of 1,727 from Friday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 32 bringing the total to 643.

The Western Cape has the most infections with 20,160, followed by Gauteng at 3,773, KwaZulu-Natal 2,476, Free State 261, North West 162, Mpumalanga 113, Limpopo 173, Eastern Cape 3,759, Northern Cape 57 and unallocated infections 33.

The total number of recoveries to date is 16,116 which translates to a rate of 52%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 701,883 this is an increase of 21,708 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report 32 more COVID-19 related deaths- this brings the total national deaths to 643.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families.
