The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 27,403.
This is an increase of 1,466 from Wednesday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 25 bringing the total to 577
The Western Cape has the most infections with 17,754, followed by Gauteng at 3,329, KwaZulu-Natal 2,349, Free State 225, North West 134, Mpumalanga 111, Limpopo 144, Eastern Cape 3,306, Northern Cape 51 and unallocated infections 0.
The total number of recoveries to date is 14,370.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 655,723 this is an increase of 20,727 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably, we report 25 more COVID-19 related deaths- this brings the total national deaths to 577.”
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families.
