COVID-19 Deaths Jump To 2,657, Infections Rise To 151,209

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 151,209.

This is an increase of 6,945 from Monday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 128 bringing the total to 2,657.

The Western Cape has the most infections with 62,481 followed by Gauteng at 42,881, Eastern Cape at 27,686, KwaZulu-Natal 9,674, Free State 1,514, North West 4,187, Mpumalanga 1,190, Limpopo 1,131, Northern Cape 465 and unallocated infections 0.

The total number of recoveries to date is 73,543, which translates to a recovery rate of 48,6%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 1,630,008 this is an increase of 33,013 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report a further 128 COVID-19 related deaths- 4 from Mpumalanga, 25 from Eastern Cape, 36 from Gauteng, 11 from KwaZulu Natal and 52 from Western Cape. This brings the total deaths to 2,657. The mortality rate is 1,8%.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
