COVID-19 Deaths Jump to 2,205, Infections Rise to 111,796

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 111,796.

This is an increase of 5,688 from Tuesday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 103 bringing the total to 2,205.

The Western Cape has the most infections with 55,162 followed by Gauteng at 26,156, Eastern Cape at 19,214, KwaZulu-Natal 6,075, Free State 889, North West 2,618, Mpumalanga 713, Limpopo 670, Northern Cape 299 and unallocated infections 0.

The total number of recoveries to date is 56,874 this translates to a recovery rate of 50,9%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 1,416,894 this is an increase of 34,122 which were done in the last 24 hours.

Regrettably, we report a further 103 COVID-19 related deaths- 15 from Eastern Cape, 25 from Gauteng and 63 from Western Cape. This brings the total deaths to 2205. The mortality rate is 2.0%

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
