The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 61,927.
This is an increase of 3,359 from Thursday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 70 bringing the total to 1,354.
The Western Cape has the most infections with 38,926, followed by Gauteng at 8,781, Eastern Cape at 8,615, KwaZulu-Natal 3,573, Free State 435, North West 865, Mpumalanga 243, Limpopo 288, Northern Cape 138 and unallocated infections 63.
The total number of recoveries to date is 35,008, this translates to a recovery rate of 56.5%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 1,060,425 this is an increase of 32,026 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably, we report a further 70 COVID-19 related deaths: 39 from Western Cape, 30 from the Eastern Cape, and 1 from Limpopo. This brings the total national deaths to 1354 with a mortality rate of 2,2%.”
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families.
