COVID-19 Deaths in SA Spike to 131, Infections Soar to 6,783

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 6,783.

This is an increase of 447 from Saturday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 8 bringing the total to 131.

The Western Cape has the most infections with 3,044, followed by the Gauteng at 1,624, KwaZulu-Natal 1,076, Free State 122, North West 36, Mpumalanga 46, Limpopo 37, Eastern Cape 774, Northern Cape 24 and unallocated infections 0.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 245,747 this is an increase of 15,061, which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report a further 8 COVID-19 related deaths: 2 from Western Cape, 4 from the Eastern Cape and 2 from Gauteng. This brings the total deaths to 131.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families and appreciation to the health workers who treated the patients.
