The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 50,879.
This is an increase of 2,594 from Sunday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 82 bringing the total to 1.080
The Western Cape has the most infections with 33,568, followed by Eastern Cape at 6,341, Gauteng at 6,258, KwaZulu-Natal 3,175, Free State 373, North West 580, Mpumalanga 183, Limpopo 244, Northern Cape 118 and unallocated infections 39
The total number of recoveries to date is 26,099, this translates to a recovery rate of 51.3%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 943,059, this is an increase of 22,983 which were done in the last 24 hours.
Regrettably, we report a further 82 COVID-19 related deaths: 55 from Western Cape, 26 from the Eastern Cape, and 1 from KZN.This brings the total national deaths to 1080 with a mortality rate of 2,1%.”
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families.
