COVID-19 Deaths Hit the 5,000 Mark – Infections Rise to 364,328

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 364,328.

This is an increase of 13,449 from Saturday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 85 bringing the total to 5,033.

Gauteng has the most infections with 133,617 followed by Western Cape at 85,926, Eastern Cape at 63,181, KwaZulu-Natal 43,215, Free State 9,993, North West 14,006, Mpumalanga 7,129, Limpopo 4,928, Northern Cape 2,266 and unallocated infections 67.

The total number of recoveries to date is 191,059, which translates to a recovery rate of 52,4%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 2,471,747 this is an increase of 49,006 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report a further 85 COVID-19 related deaths – this brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 5,033.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
