Could There be a Revote for the ANC Top 6 Leadership?

December 19, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 19-12-2017

The Premier of the North West, Supra Mahumapelo says a vote discrepancy raised by branch members must be addressed by the steering committee in charge of the African National Congress (ANC)’s 54th national conference.

It’s understood that an investigation is underway into claims that about 68 votes for the party’s leadership disappeared

The steering committee, chaired by new national chairperson Gwede Mantashe took over after the NEC was declared dissolved by the party’s electoral commission on Monday.

Mahumpelo says some delegates who wanted Senzo Mchunu to be secretary general instead of Ace Masgashule raised the issue of the discrepancy in votes.

“My proposal is that it must end there. Because if it comes to plenary we are ready for that. We are going to suggest in plenary that is that is the case, this is a secret ballot. How do you know that only affected the SG’s position? So we will call for revote on all of the six positions.

He says the delegates should just accept the results and move on.

“All of us must put the interests of the ANC first. If you suspect 68 allegations, raise it with the leadership and leave it there. Allow the leadership to address it.”

Mahumpelo says they have accepted Cyril Ramaphosa as ANC president and that he must unite and build the movement and prepare for the 2019 general elections.
