COSATU Calls for Zuma to Resign – No Longer Believes in His Abilities

April 04, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 04-04-2017

The Council of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) says they no longer believe that President Jacob Zuma is the right person to unite and lead the African National Congress (ANC) and has called for him to resign.

The trade union federation which held a special central executive committee meeting yesterday says there is too much controversy that surrounds President Jacob Zuma.

COSATU’s Bheki Ntshalintshali says they no long believe in Zuma’s leadership abilities.

“This combined with the alleged and due influence that is apparently exacted by the Gupta family in the office of President Zuma and a series of controversy surrounding President Zuma, like the Constitutional Court judgment and his apology on Nkandla, COSATU no longer believes that the president is the right person to unite and lead the movement.”

The president has been criticised for his recent cabinet reshuffle and subsequent downgrading by ratings agency S & P Global to junk status.

Ntshalintshali says the time has now come for Zuma to leave.

“We think that of all his undeniable contribution both to the movement and government, the time has arrived for his to step down and allow the country to be led by a new collective at government level.”

Ntshalintshali says they’ll be communicating their decision soon to the ANC.
