Coligny resident Abdul Khota says he is heartbroken after his house was burnt down and shop plundered by demonstrators in the North West town.
Coligny residents took to the streets looting and burning buildings demanding the arrest of the two suspects Pieter Dooreward and Philip Scutte accused of killing Matlhomola Moshoeu in the North West town in April.
Residents say Moshoeu was thrown out of a moving vehicle after being caught stealing sunflowers but Dooreward and Scutte have disputed this.
According to Netwerk24, Khota’s house which is bordered by a piece of field between him and the squatter camp was the third house that was torched in Coligny on Friday.
Khota wants to know what he has done to residents that they burnt his house down.
“What did I do to them? They also burned the house. We had to flee everybody. I phoned the police, but they were too slow. Then we called the fire department, but they were still filling their water tanks (after the other fires).
Khota’s shop was also looted by demonstrators.
“Last week the people plundered my shop. We have been in town for 19 years. What now? I have nothing more now. Where do I go?”
Anger erupted again today after Dooreward and Scutte were granted bail of R5,000 each.
