Cleric Vows to Bury Boston Bombing Suspect in Muslim Cemetary

May 07, 2013

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 2013-05-07

The founder of the organization that built Colorado's largest masjid Sheikh Abu-Omar Almubarac has vowed to bury suspected Boston bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev in a Denver or Bennet Muslim cemetery.

26 Year old Tsarnaev died in a shootout with police over his alleged involvement in a twin bombing in Boston that killed three people and injured scores.

After his death, the Boston bombing suspect is still causing dilemma after failing to find a cemetery in Massachusetts willing to accept his remains. Several masjids have also reportedly refused to conduct the funeral service for the suspected bomber.

However some masjid officials said the bomber should get the funeral service regardless of his action. Almubarac said he will pay for a traditional Muslim burial-no headstone, monument or casket and refused to say which, one out of concern or for "undue publicity." He says he'll bury Tsarnaev as long as his family can get the body to Denver.

His parents have both defended Tsarnaev and their younger son. The suspects' mother, Zubeidat, has said she is willing to take Tamerlan's body. But they live in Russia and lack the means to bring his body home.

His widow, Katherine, refuses to have anything to do with her husband. She has returned to using her maiden name, Russell, and released a statement saying she would rather his family claim his body,

Al-Mubarac incorporated the Colorado Muslim Society in the late 1960s but made his offer independently of the organization. Al-Mubarac says only God can judge Tsarnaev.

Tsarnaev's uncle Ruslan Tsarni, of Montgomery Village, Maryland, arrived at a Massachusetts funeral home to arrange for his burial Sunday. He and several men accompanying him washed and performed Muslim burial rites on his body. However he has been unable to bury his nephew in Massachusetts because of protests.
