The City of Johannesburg says the overloading of the electricity network in Region G, which includes Lenasia and Eldorado Park, is the cause of damage to electrical infrastructure and premature failures.

The office of the Environment and Infrastructure Services Department (EISD) MMC Mpho Moerane addressed a number challenges emanating from power outages in the region.

In a statement, Deputy Director: Communications and Stakeholder Relations Stan Itshegetseng acknowledged that Region G has been afflicted with an increased number of unplanned outages since the advent of the cold front.

“The outages are a result of overloading caused by among others, illegal connections and the proliferation of backyard structures. This results in an exponential increase of outages, which eventually outstrips the already overstretched resources and slower restoration times, which naturally incenses customers.”

Itshegetseng highlighted the problems raised by residents and provided feedback on the queries saying that power should be restored to affected areas after extensive repair work.
