City Of Ekurhuleni Has The Best Drinking Water In South Africa

May 23, 2016

Mohamed Ameen Dabhelia- 2016/05/23

The Department of Water and Sanitation has awarded the City of Ekurhuleni for having the best drinking water in the country after maintaining its Blue-drop status.

The Blue Drop Certification awards excellence in the area of water quality management which surpasses the requirement of the national norms and standards by some reasonable margin.

The certification does not only reflect the quality of tap water but the municipality’s ability to sustain its quality.

Spokespesperson for the Ekhuruleni Municipality Themba Gadebe says correct management systems need to be put in place in order to improve the quality of water.

“In terms of the infrastructure that is required to ensure the quality of water improves, we have the best resources needed, so that we are able to supply clean water of the highest quality.”

Gadebe says this includes its preparedness to deal with any incident or water borne situations that may pose a health risk to the public.

The City of Ekurhuleni intends to further reduce water wastage through various community intensive programs.

Already, 100 community ambassadors have been recruited to strengthen the water loss programme through the collection of data and evaluating leakages.
