Citizens in the blessed city Medina in Saudi Arabia have launched a campaign for an 80-year-old man who was relieved of his duties after working for four decades at Masjid-un-Nabawi (Prophet Muhammad PBUH mosque)

According to the Saudi Gazette, the photo of the man known as Moqtada was posted on social media sites with appeals to his employer to honour him instead of firing him.

“It was a hard moment when my company informed me that I was being relieved of my duties due to old age,” Moqtad said.

Saudi Gazette reports that some supporters of the elderly man have also urged the government to grant Moqtada citizenship or permanent iqama (work permit) and salary for his loyal and decades long service at the masjid.

Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper writer Hamad Al-Majed, said he informed an official in the Saudi Binladin Group about the purpose of this campaign while Monaira Al-Qadeeb, a Saudi woman writer, also supported the campaign for the elderly man and said such workers must be honoured.
