The South African Minority Equality Movement will be laying charges against the Economic Freedom Fighter’s Leader Julius Malema.
This, after Malema made disparaging remarks about the Indian community at his party’s fourth birthday celebrations in Durban at the weekend.
Malema said that “everything strategically is given to the Indian community in KwaZulu-Natal.” He added that Indians needed to start respecting Africans.
“They are ill treating them worse than Afrikaners will do, we don’t want that to continue here in Natal.”
The convener of the Movement, Ashin Singh, told Radio Islam that Malema falls under the category of ‘lazy politicians, attacking those who have worked hard for themselves.’
“These politicians are not hardworking enough to create success for themselves, they rely on government handouts and cheap politics to create sensationalism and to make themselves famous, this is what Malema is doing.”
Singh says the comments by Malema are offensive and racist.
“Such comments are prohibited by the Hate Speech bill, it’s a criminal offense to generalize like this and make such racist statements that promote hatred and creates further tensions.”
Malema is no stranger to controversial statements against minority race groups in South Africa.
“This is not the first time his done something like this, back when he was still with the ANC, he said that he wanted to invade all ‘coolie’ schools, we took him to court, he apologized, said it was a misunderstanding and that was that,” said Singh.
He adds that Malema will face the consequences of his actions as charges will be laid against the EFF leader at the Equality Court in the next few days.
